Carburetor problems

I had the Carburetor rebuilt over the winter. When I went to go put the boat in the lake she had a hard time starting. I pulled out the plugs and noticed that they were soaked. I replaced them with brand new ones and eventually the motor decided to start. It ran quite crappy at idle. I adjusted the carb all that I could. When the boat was shut off i looked into the carb and i noticed that gas was still pouring into the motor. Could this be because the float is stuck in the open position? The boat runs great when its wide open but when its idle it smokes (black smoke) and wants to stall out.

The inlet needle is stuck or improperly installed

What do i need to do to fix that? That is attached to the float right?

There are a million different carbs out there, how do you suppose anyone can answer your question without knowing what kind of carb it is.<br />If you "had" the carb rebuilt, take it back to them and tell them the problem. better yet take the boat to them so they can see the problem. It may not be the carbs fault. Could be a leaking fuel pump diaphram causing the excess fuel.

I agree with Don S., need more info on the carb rebuild... was a new float put in? Maybe the old float isn't floating any more...

Just wanted to let you all know that i pulled thhe carb all apart and i noticed that the foat was sticking alot which was causing excessive gas flow to the carb. After i cleaned her up and threw it back together it worked like a champ. No more smoke, smooth idle. Cant wait to put it in the water again
