I have an 84 Malibu With an OMC 3.8L V6 and a Rochester 2-Jet Carb. Last trip out the motor kept loading up and dying at slow speeds but ran fine at higher speeds. After shutting down I opened the engine cover and pulled the flame arrestor. Looking into the Carb I noticed gas dripping. Stuck floats? Carb rebuild time? :/

Re: Carburetor Question

Yep,,,It sounds like a float problem or trash holding the float needle off its seat. Definately sounds like it's time for a carb overhaul. Be sure to replace fuel filters. If you dont have an inline fuel/water seperator between the tank and the fuel pump, now would be a good time to install one. Also be sure to change the spark plugs too. They are probably fouled from all the flooding.

Re: Carburetor Question

Is there fuel in the fuel pump overflow hose? It goes to the carb and dumps fuel from a defective fuel pump diaphram into the carb instead of the bilge.
