Hello all,

I just picked up a sweet little 79 Hydrostream V-king. It's all in great shape, just aesthetic and electrical work to be done (just finished rewiring the boat last night). I'm replacing the crappy old gray carpet and would like to put in a good quality dark blue/navy. Can anyone recommend me a good brand? I've searched around this site and online but I just can't find many dependable reviews, and I want to make sure I'm buying a good product since I can't hold it in my hands and check it out.

I don't want the cheapo stuff, I would like something that will hold up and feel nice under bare feet. An 8'x10' section should do the job.

Here's a couple pics. Thanks!

Dude this may sound strange, but Lowe's has Grey by the roll. It is 12' wide and however long you want it. It only costs $6.00 or so per linear foot, so I did my 16' Starcraft for around $80 including glue. It is really nice, stays down, and is impenetrable by water. Go check it out.

Actually Lowe's has several colors in stock and a 4X4 board of samples in all colors, for special order. I chose an inexpensive blue indoor-outdoor carpet, and I like the way it looks and feels.

I ordered mine from Home Depot's web site. It was Lancer marine carpet. They had a free shipping deal going on at the time. Glued down real well with their 6700 adhesive.

It sure would look nice! :D
Most factory carpet are grey for a reason other than cheap.

A Dark Blue carpet will show dirt easier, be more noticable when it fades, and will be HOT under those bare feet!

Something to consider. :)

P.S. Has anyone ever tried replacing the carpet with a waterproof vinyl?

I missed that dark blue/navy part. DON'T DO IT! You'll hate it. I have navy in my last boat and it was nightmare. Looked great when just cleaned but ones single step into the boat from the ground and it looked filthy again. Stick with gray or beige, etc.

Put a marine vinyl deck in my current boat. Love it! http://i176.photobucket.com/albums/w200/ezmobee/New Boat/DSCF2504.jpg

Its unanimous then.....LOL.

I've had Nautolex marine non-skid vinyl floors in every boat since 1971. Never had a floor ripped, scratched or otherwise damaged, never had worm goop that didn't clean right up and the water just runs off so no worries about holding water and rotting the deck. Feels fine on my feet and comes in dozens of colors.

Re: Carpet Recommendations

Thanks for the responses guys. I'm leaning away from the navy right now. Man it would look great, but you're right, it'll get dirty quick and be HOT!

90stingray, I'll check that place out. Thanks for the tip. I'm definitely gluing in, as there just isn't enough open floor space to make snap-in worthwhile. Plus the floor underneath looks crappy anyway.
