cav plate trim tab ,I think. please help.

My motor is a 1981 Johnson Seahorse 75 and under the cav plate is a small adjustable fin on a movable plate, can anyone please tell me what this is and what it does. Thanks.

Hey bigoldboy<br /><br />Otherwise known as a torque Tab, you would loosen the bolt and adjust this fin to compensate for steering pull. If your wheel pulls to the right, move the back of the fin to the right. Left if it pulls left.
