sorry for the late reply, I started discussing this in my restore thread and just remembered this thread.

piece of wood is for a straight edge, I did test the boat out once, in some small to moderate chop, it ran ok but I believe it did kick out of the water at times. I'm going to adjust the manual tilt next time and see how it goes.

If I need to go lower, any suggestions that wont break the bank?

Nick.......it looks like bringing the trim in a couple of holes would line the antiventilation plate up with the keel. It'll also lower the prop so you shouldn't get cavitation issues. If your intake is like mine ('76 25hp Johnson) on the skeg behind the prop, that should also keep the intake below the waterline also.
