Hi All, New to the forum. I am looking into buying a new CC boat. I have a bad knee and kinda concerned about standing while driving the boat. I see pictures online and everyone is standing while driving. Can you sit in the seat and drive? Or are you too far back when sitting down? Also, my wife says that she doesnt want to sit in front of the console on a cooler. Do they make CCs with 2 captains chair side by side?
I can walk and stand just fine while fishing. I just need to be able to take a load off my knee while traveling to the next fishing spot.
Thanks Richard

I believe that a majority of center console boat owners simply prefer to stand with a 'leaning post". There are plenty of bench seats available which convert to leaning posts. This will probably be your best option. You can put captains chairs in; but it will be wasted space. With the leaning post/seat, you'll generally have rod holders on the back, and will tie up less space than captains chairs. You can certainly sit while driving a center console boat. You should have no trouble finding one big enough to seat two. The boat you end up buying may very well have one. I've looked into a single for my boat. They start at around six hundred deer.

Welcome to iboats!

As VH has said, there are many center consoles with bench seats wide enough for two.

(Hey, VH it's DEAR, not DEER in the context you're using the word.) <sorry, couldn't help myself:redface:>

If I'd been replying to you, I may have used "Dear";):p:rolleyes:. I was referring to "Bucks" when I used the word "Deer" We're not supposed to use dollar signs nor monetary values on the forum. I thought you were aware of this, Dear:D. Better watch it; your grammer police chief may give you a time out if you keep wrongfully citing law abiding, grammatically correct boaters:rolleyes::facepalm:

Mine has two buckets on sliders.
I can sit or lean, slide it forward and sit in it or slide it back and lean.
Some leaning posts has the same option to slide out the seat and sit, considering the price of two chairs or a leaning post can be about the same price or a little more for the leaning post.

Now, look here, honey!

Never heard of using "deer" to mean "bucks" of the monetary variety. Mea culpa! But I used "dear" to mean "valuable" or "pricey" (E.g. "That boat cost me dearly.")

Now back to our regularly scheduled thread.:p

Freebird, you are, of course, required to let us know what you end up buying.

Alright, maybe you don't need a time out... Maybe;). Until I started on iboats, I'd never heard of using "deer" either. Saw it here on various posts, liked it, been using it ever since.

Freebird, I think I'm through "Jacking" your post now. Please accept my humble and sincere apologies:redface:. As NYBo said; and in addition to letting us know what you end up buying, please, post pictures:D Best of luck in your search!!!

if you want to sit when driving the boat, i would go with two captain chairs.you will be more comfortable.a leaning post is not going to take the pressure off your knees, and is not comfortable to sit when driving.try it out on a demo boat.a new boat should have the option to change the driver seats.i bought a new boat and did not want the leaning post and switched it to a cooler seat, to sit when fishing.i stand when driving, the cooler seat is too low to see when driving.also welcome to the forum.

Re: Center console purchase

You can have any seat arrangement in a CC as long as it's high enough to see over the console, and you don't have to have rod holders on the seats. Sky's the limit. Look around the boat show and a marina.

My 21' sea hunt has a tall bench seat, wide enough for both my wife and I to sit there (and we are wide, too!). There is a foot rest bar, like a bar rail. The seat back swings back and forth; when it's all the way back it's a long reach to the wheel/controls. When it's all the way forward, it's a leaning post.

My wife also likes to ride on the seat in front of the console on hot days, or she sits on the bow seats facing backwards (no wind/spray in her face) and yours may like this too.

Once you drive a boat standing up for a while you will find it's the preferred way to go, especially when the water isn't glass smooth. So be sure you boat is rigged to allow you to stand comfortably--enough room between the wheel and seat for you, your beer belly and your PFD.

A 21 or 23 will give you lots of room and options.

Sea Fox, like the all the other "sea" boats, are known as good mid-level boats. usually inexpensive, but generic on the used market (you know that a new boat is NOT an investment? None of them hold value; some decline less but cost way more to start with).

Re: Center console purchase

The original owner of my boat upgraded from the cooler seat with the swivel backrest to this leaning post with a removable backrest:
boat1.jpg

It has 4 rod holders on the post, along with that handle bar, when the backrest is set in there it takes up two of the rod holders. Once i'm set and cruising in calmer seas I can sit down, and there's a fold down footrest too, since it puts you kinda high off the ground. Maybe look for something like this, but try and test it out yourself if you see one at the boat show.

Have a great time at the boat show:). Try out every option available, even if you think it's not for you. You never know... There'll be a lot to see and do. Take full advantage of the time you spend there. I'm sure you'll find more than one option you love. Good luck with your decision.

IMG_4525.jpgIMG_4523.jpgMy 24'8" cc came with captains chairs - the first thought was
that they had to go - some people like them. This is what I replaced them with- as you can see the seat flips up. Sometimes
I sit on the top of the backrest. Anyway my console has foot
rest. I have much greater visibility with my new ( used ) seat,
and I love the rod holders!
