I'll bet the entire carb wasn't the issue, maybe just plastic parts in the rebuild kit. and fuel line. Maybe a diaphragm, those would tear with new obama mandated fuel.

I just don't know. I'll let you all know as soon as I get the saw back. Been a week now and I haven't heard anything.

The guy said that old carburetors of this one's age would not stand up to the ethanol in today's gasoline. I took his word on it.
ethanol resistant fuel system components have been the norm since 1986.

I bought my Stihl in 1990. It's been run on e-10 since the late 90's with no ill affect.

Having said that, 22 year old rubber is way past it's prime in any application.

I've talked to the shop again yesterday and now they're going to put a kit in the carburetor. I don't know why they changed their mind, but I think it'll be ok. I don't know how old this saw is. The man that gave it to me said he couldn't remember, he just remembered that he had heart surgery in 1992 and had not used it since.

We'll see, and I'll report back when I get it. Thanks,

John

I'm glad they are not going to put a new carb on and charge you more then the saw is worth. Most any small engine carb is usually brought back to life with a simple and cheap carb kit. There seriously isn't much to wear out in those little carbs that a rebuild kit wouldn't fix... Keep us posted...

Maybe asking for the old, "valued" one back.

Got the saw back yesterday. It cranked the second pull and seemed to run fine. Total bill was about $86, and that included several items, a crank seal, pickup tube, carburetor kit, etc., and labor. I was well pleased.

Thanks to all, now I think I'll start on that 40 year old Lombard I've had since it was new.

Gettin' that old crap runnin' again is fun isnt it?

Yeah. That old Lombard was the second, and up until now, the last saw I owned. It's about the size of a XL12 Homelite but with larger engine. Still works like a mule, but hard to get started. I bought it new in 1975.

Nothing has changed under Obama.

I replaced the carb on a 15 year old chain saw a year back. Bought the carb and some other parts for the saw. The place was I believe Partsplus.com. If I remember the total price right around 35 bucks.
