I'll soon hone (deglaze) and re-rings my '93 60hp (3 cyl.) with a 240-grit Flex-hone.

I know the balls can hit a bit into the ports edges and i know the importance of smooting them so the ring don't catch them, but i wonder what should i use for this. Is a 400, 600 and 1500 fine wet paper is ok? And is this figure on the bevel pattern ok?

Re: Chamfering port edges?

A Flex hone will not remove any aluminum transfer or straighten a cylinder it will "deglaze" and crosshatch as you posted. You need not worry as the ball's will not pull material in cylinder. Just use a drill with a minimum of 400 rpm and keep it well drenched @ about 50-60 strokes a minute. Wash block with HOT soapy water and toliet brush. Wash and rinse unit you can take a white paper towel and wipe cylinder walls and transfer ports and it stays clean and not discolored or has honing material on it. Wipe wall down with 2 stroke oil to prevent surface rust.
