Hi and Thanks for any help, Prior to changing the water pump I had the shifter in forward position. While reinstalling lower unit I had trouble getting it to mesh the last 2 inches. I put the shifter in neutral to see if that would help. It didn't. Turned flywheel while trying to install and it finally meshed. Ran motor and water coming out the tell tale. Shifted in forward and prop spinning. Shifted to reverse, prop spinning (did not notice prop rotation, duh). Put boat in water and had no reverse. Took lower unit back off and turned shift spline by hand (actually vice grips) and found neutral. Had shifter already in neutral and reinstalled. Ran motor and no forward or reverse. Took lower unit back off and recorded shaft rotation for different positions while turning splined connector by hand. Here's the sequence : At the ccw stop going cw it turned kind of hard and went into neutral. Still going cw it went into FWD. (turning prop by hand to verify position). Turned very freely then hit resistance that would kind of spring back a bit. Turned ccw it went freely and was still in FWD. Turned more and was in neutral. Then it hit resistance like before. Turned back cw and it went into FWD. Turned freely then went into both FWD and REV by turning prop. Continued cw and hit neutral. More turn and FWD. Then resistance. Be wildered and tired. Thanks for help!
