Just got my first boat and it has a DT40 manual everything on the back

I got a Suzuki manual for it but it only goes up to 2003 have there been any or many changes since then? I figure my engine is a 2007 model.

cheers

you definately DO NOT HAVE a DT40 ... maybe a DF40 ... as suzuki stopped making the 40hp 2-stroke in 1998 ...... what is your serial no .......

I believe you will find that to be a 1998 engine.

as in brand new (built in 2006 or 2007) but identical to the 1998 engine?

I very much doubt they would have a heap of brand new engines around that were built nearly 10 years ago.

Re: changes to post 2003 DT40 Suzuki

a 1998 DT 40 would have a serial number starting with 861 not 880 as per the Suzuki service manual covering models from 1988 to 2003. this manual suggests that the DT40 stopped at 1998 but I can assure you the motor on the back of my tinny is brand new and looks identical to the DF40 except for the four stroke sticker. as per the link I provided.

where do you get your information? do not forget that just because they stopped supply to America or S. Africa does not mean they discontinued the line.

The DT 40 is currently available in New Zealand and Australia. Just because an engine is discontinued in one part of the world that does not mean it is not available in other places. Very often a model may be discontinued because it does not meet emissions requirements or because of small demand.

EXACTLY!!!! With people that reply to genuine questions but obviously do not know all there is to know and treat those people with genuine questions like crap i.e. telling me that my brand new DT40 is a 98 model or a DF 40 ( I wish) this will be my last time here. I also know quite a few other boaties who can pass it on to others etc etc.

Stop being a forum Junky and get some real knowledge.

This message is for Burko. Do not let the postings of one person speak for everyone on the forum. Suzuki and Yamaha both have outboard models that differ depending on where they are sold. Some people on the forum can communicate in a friendly informative manner. Others are unable to do that because they think they know everything. I try to learn something new everyday. G'day mate from a Yank.

Cheers Bruce

unfortunately due to the fact that information given has been inaccurate or misleading any other information I could have gained from this site will have to be taken with a grain of salt. I will probably check in occasionally and trawl through the site but am going to keep to myself.
