I have a 1979 johnson 100hp. I just changed the powerhead to a 79 115. everything works great after the swap. I need to change the water pum/impeller being that it has never been changed in the 27 years that I have owned this boat... I know.. I know... (It still pumps water great!!!) My question is: Do I change the whole pump, or just the impeller? Thanks for the advice.

After 29 years I would probably change the whole pump, but if you pull it apart and the housing is still in good shape with no pits you coauld get by with just the impeller.

You will probably need a new lower exhaust seal #320961.

were it mine, and I was planning to not drop the L/U for another 27, I'd think seriously about replacing the shift rod o-ring - mine made it 29 years but I doubt it'd go another 29. ;)

If you want to refresh the cooling system why not replace the t stat and flush the water line while you are at it. Ensure the water intake area is free of debris, and re grease those drive shaft splines before re installing the lu.

May also be a good time to give the exhaust a quick cleaning as well, Im sure after 29 years you will see some build ups.
