changing a thru-hull fitting?

I have a 2452 Bayliner and there is a thru-hull fitting I need to change. The old fitting is broken off flush with the gelcoat on the outside.
My problem is I don't know how to access the inside of the fitting to put the nylon locknut on the new fitting, or reattach the hose.
I can't get at it from the interior of the boat, as far as I can tell.
The only thing I can see is the "Whale" transom shower, which if removed might give me access.
I don't know how to remove the shower, and if I try prying it off, I will probably break it.
Help!

Thanks

You have to get to the inside to get to the nut on the back side of it. Do you think the thing is leaking? You might be better off leaving well enough alone.

I think you need to try real hard to get at it, if the outer flange is broken off flush then likely the only thing holding it on now is some sealer they put around at installation time. Do you know what it's for? bilge pump, sink drain?? The shower may just be held in with sealant or some hidden screws.

Re: changing a thru-hull fitting?

Thanks for the insight.

I really need to change this thing. I think it is a bilge pump drain.

It is sheared off, and the remainder has been pushed back into the hull. I put the new fitting in, and taped off the hole, to keep water from entering.

I still don't know how to access the interior of the hull.

If I could get the transom shower out, I might get access.

I don't see any screws that might enable me to remove the shower.

I'm stumped!

Could you post a few pics of the fitting and the surounding area including the transom shower? With a few pics, surely someone will be able to figure out how to access the fitting. Have you tried to cantact a Bayliner dealer and talk to a tech.?
