changing the break-in oil on my Merc 350 that now has about 8 hours on it...i say merc because that's who made the heads, intake mani, eveything but the block and internals. the guy i bought this boat from builds race V8's professionally, and built this block using a 94 suburban block, and completely new internals, crank, rods, pistons, bearings, etc...my question is...is there any difference between marine bearings and automotive bearings? IE should I be using automotive oil vs the quicksilver oil, or is there no difference? I have read the threads about single weight vs. multi-weight etc...i just want to make sure i get this right.

on another note...im doing the plastic bag method of draining the oil rather than the pump. any objections? :D

thanks

There's really no difference.

Just make sure you do what the engine builder told you to do incase something goes wrong with the engine........that way, they won't be reluctant to "cover" it!

I used to do the plastic bag method until I caught the bag on something sharp removing it......:eek:

Before I installed my 454 I put a hose on the drain hole in the pan and adel-clamped it to my port riser.

Now I use a Moeller vac pump to suck out the oil.

It gets it all cold or hot. I also use it to suck trans fluid out of the trans and anything else where I need to extract oil or diesel (don't use it with gasoline)

Cheers,

Rick
