If I change from a 14 pitch aluminum prop to a 13 pitch S/S what will it do for or against me?

Re: changing pitch

That is a good switch, if you want to keep basically the same speed and rpms you had before... SS props do not flex like aluminum, so your rpms would drop (if the pitch didn't change), and you would get more bite out of the prop. Allowing you to possibly raise the engine higher for better speed/performance.
Basically, going to a SS with 1" less of pitch is just about what you need to do (in most cases) to prevent excessive rpm loss.

You haven't stated what motor and boat you have, so I can't be very specific on what performance changes you may or may not have. But your choice in the prop to change to, seems just fine IMO....

I would expect that you have nothing to loose by trying it out... Obviously, the less flex and more bite with a SS prop may allow you to raise the engine "some" without ventilating, thus gaining rpm's, speed, etc... But test carefully if you decide to change your engine height....You don't want to loose water pressure...

A 1" less pitch in a SS prop should give you roughly the same WOT RPM as the 1" plus aluminum prop. But since the SS prop is cupped much more than the aluminum, you should get a better "bite" on the water and improved perfomance. You may even pick up some RPM since the SS blades are thinner, but a lot depends on the overall setup.
