They usually sells impellers (water pumps) one of three ways. 1) Impeller only, 2) Impeller kit, 3) Impeller housing or impeller kit with housing. You should go with #2, the impeller kit. This will include the impeller and all necessary seals for the impeller replacement. There really is no separate seal between the lower unit and the midsection.

The tell-tale modification you describe is likely okay to do but I've never tried it or heard about this so I'm not a good source for that. You don't really need more water coming out you just need it to come out in more force so it sprays out so to me it sounds like you need to take what you have and make it smaller so it shoots out further. If you should do this please post your results for us to read about in case others want to do the same.

Good luck,

I suggest you reconsider drilling the telltale nipple larger. May not be a good idea. The telltale orfice size restricts the flow of water out of the block so that the block will fill and circulate properly. If you drill too large a hole, more water may flow out of the engine and less may flow up to the top of the block, providing needed cooling. If you still choose to do this, I would add length to the hose and loop it up, above the top of the block, then back down to the nipple. This will help insure the block fills to the top.

Sooooo, THAT'S why my pee hose is looped like that!! Thanks - I've been wondering for some time now why it ws looped on top of the block and then back down again. Makes perfect sense now!!!
