Hi all!
I've a 20hp 1987 manual start Evinrude and there
is no spark at either plug. I have 2 cheap
digital multimeters and they show both a maximum
voltage of 30-35 volts rms from the charge coil
when cranking. Clymer's shop manual says the minimum peak voltage should be 230 volts or about
150 volts rms. Can I deduce reliably from this
that the charge coil is defective?

Hi Dread...

If yer' sure that's the correct reading, then the power coil has gone south. Replace it.
