Hi everyone. This is my first post on the forum. Seems like there is a wealth of knowledge here.
I'm having an issue with my 1985, 75hp Johnson outboard. I'm just not getting a charge to the battery. I've checked both the stator, and the rectifier, and I'm getting readings of 20+V at idle, and higher when increasing RPM.
I believe that the issue is in the way I've wired the motor. I've just recently put it on, and I've never had it charging the battery. I have everything wired up, including my tach, which is working perfectly. I just can't seem to understand where I've gone wrong.
MY MAIN question is this:
Is there a single wire responsible for charging the battery, or does the charge come back along the 6 gauge Red wire from the solenoid?
Thanks in advance. I plan on going fishing tomorrow
