So i have run into a bit of an issue. My batteries do not seem to be charging at all. Here is the back story up to now.
Bought a boat with a 1986 Evinrude 150. The main cranking battery (group 31)was taking a 80% charge and the secondary (house) battery would only take 30%.
I replaced the house battery with a better battery that would take 85% charge. This newer second battery was quite a bit smaller than the cranking battery (i.e. not a group 31). I linked the two batteries in parrallel hoping to charge both at the same time. No combiners or isolaters or switches were used in this sytem. I know, stupid move.
After about 4-5 trips with this setup i noticed that my batteries were not charging and that my fishfinder was only reading 11.9-12.2 volts while the engine was running. 9.9 volts while engine off.
My question is, are my batteries shot or do i have a bad bridge rectifier, or is it the stator? How do i test these things? Before i take the boat out again after i fix this issue i am buying new batteries for the boat and incorporating a combiner and two way perko switch with off position.
Hope i have given enough information to help give me a little direction. Thank you.
