check this out blue a spark plug

While trying to find out if I had spark I done a redneck check, put some gas in the spark plug hole and pull the cord, the spark plug went flying now I can't get the spark plug to tighten in ?? guess I stripped the threads. What can I do????HELP

You either now replace the head, OR put in a helicoil or the like. If you do not have the tools, a marina will do it for like 20 bucks or thereabouts. Take off the head and bring it to them.

What motor?

Either way you are going to need to remove the head to repair. If your engine is common enough, you might be able to find a replacement head in good shape. Remember to use a new gasket. If you go with an insert (Heli-Coil), you'll still need to remove the head. You don't want shavings down in the cylinder. Any good machine shop, mechanic, or marine mechanic can do the work for a reasonable cost if you don't want too. And remember, install a new head gasket, and torque the head bolts in a criss-cross pattern to the right torque specification. Too loose or too tight will result in a warped head or blown out gasket.

Most shops will use grease on the heli-coil tap so that no shavings get into the cylinder.----Aluminum shavings would blow out the exhaust ports without doing any damage !!

Another trick I have just seen is to move the piston to the bottom of its stroke. Fill with shaving cream. Grease the tap. Then when done, rotate flywheel, pushing cream out of plug hole with any potential shavings that may have fallen in.

Myself, I pull off the head. I mean, it only takes minutes, why risk it.

That's my theory. At least with a small two stroke outboard. The head can usually be removed fast and easily. The shaving cream trick is a nice one. That would work great on a larger engine or a four stroke where it isn't so easy to remove the head. I personally would still be a bit worried. Paranoid, I suppose. My luck would be a shaving would make it's way between the piston and wall and screw everything up.

Isn't shaving cream going to cause corrosin unless it is all removed? I agree, I would pull the head.

a helicoil kit is about $25-30. having a marina or machine shop do it will be $25 - $40.

how cheap of a fix are you looking for.
