I was checking all of the engines hoses to make sure that none of them are clogged or are leaking. I found what looks like a check vavle in the bottom of the engine. It has a hose coming from the very bottom of the engine then this check vavle and then a hose going to the very top of the engine. I took out the vavle and i can blow though it both ways is this normal or am I only suppose to be able to blow one way. Im thinking its not since the valve has an arrow on it that was pointing towards the top of the engine. thanks

Re: Check valve

Think maybe he's talking about the oil return hose? Lot of the older smaller horse power engines had them for bearing lubrication. No check valves....just nipples.

Re: Check valve

Im sorry it a 93 johnson 225. No its a lawnmower. LOL. I even looked it up on the BRP website and its there its even called a check vavle. Its on the side of the fuel pump. A hose comes out right on top of the block benith the timmer base and runs down to the bottom of the engine block. There is where this check valve is. heres the info from brp "42 0434927
Add to pick list CHECK VALVE ASSY".

Re: Check valve

I'm thinking (cause I havn't run across a 225) it's likely there to get lube to the upper crankshaft bearing. What ever fuel falls to the bottom of the block (inside) is pushed or sucked up to the upper bearing. The check valve will only let the flow go one way....up.

Might be wrong but that's what it sounds like.

Re: Check valve

I was thinking the same thing. But what I need to know is if you should be able to blow though it both ways or just one way. I know that the pulse limiter valve you can blow both ways. It only stops air from flowing to the fuel pump when the air spikes. So I was wondering if this check valve works the same as the pulse limiter. thanks

Re: Check valve

Yes, it should be a one way valve. It's part of the reflow system that keeps oil going to the upper main.
