ditto on the brakes, these Cherokees keep in mind were designed back in the early 80s by AMC and the front discs are single piston 11" diameter brakes with drums on the rear..................The 4.0 six will pull that boat out in 4x4 Low range as long as you have decent tires on it...........I wish they still made the old XJ style Cherokee, one of the best Jeeps ever. Still made in China by Bejing Jeep.

In agree with the XJ being one of the best Jeeps ever made and really enjoyed my time with one. I do love my WJ tho as well. Both did have the Kenosha built 4.0 and that is one reason I like both Jeeps quite a bit.

The old AMC six cylinder is China built as well. DISGUSTING. :redface:

Not to get off topic, but do you have any details on this? More so how you hooked the ebrake cable up on those rear liberty discs.

Are the front brakes bolt on from a WJ??

NAXJA.com, go there, learn. Its the iboats of XJ cherokees.

The first thread is the one i used as a guideline, If i remember correctly i used one ZJ, and one XJ cable, i think. Its been a while. You could just use the KJ cables, thats what this guy did. Hookup is straight forward. and they work great!

The front brakes (akebono) are from a WJ, so are the knuckles, steering linkage, the lower balljoints, and proportioning valve that you'll need. you'll need pre 1990 Dana 30 unit bearings, and redrill the rotors for the 5 on 4.5 bolt pattern. You'll also need a lot of time, took me 3 days with hunting/waiting for parts. It was a lot of work and a lot of parts runs.

no broken toung jack just dont trust them(and its brand new) i put the trailer on the jack stand over winter and there are two under the rear so my tires are not flat spotted when rping comes around.

as for the brakes on trialer, no need. i have been in what could have been bad situations for some but no problem for me. i towed the boat over the N Ga mountains from NC where i bought boat with no problems.

at the ramp, jeep has no issues, rain or shine, boat come out of water with no issues...

Nice rig!
I have the Classic in red too!

They tow 'all right'.
Kinda short wheel base.

Have used it as a tow rig/transportation for over 80k trouble free miles.
This my second Cherokee.

Make sure you have plenty of tongue weight, being so short they have a tendency to get squirrely when doing a panic stop or going down ramps.
Going down the ramp (backwards) the boat will try to lift the back.

When doing a panic stop it goes the other way.

You probably know, never use over-drive while towing.

Good luck, take care of it and it will last.

why so much negativity on here? this is why so many websites get bad feedback.

im ASE certefied and know what MY truck can handle and what i wont. iv towed over 6 hours with no problems, had encounters with stupid people, deer and objects on road and yet, still NO problems...

remeber, its not what you use but how u use what you have....

Because, to paraphrase Engineer Montgomery Scott, you can't change the laws of physics. You stated your boat and trailer weigh more than the Jeep, which is known for marginal brakes. Yet you insist everything is just dandy.

If you are in Georgia, your state says you have to have brakes on the trailer if it is over 3000# (trailer plus load).
