OMG man! A 4 bolt main block and you want to pinch pennies? Heck, sell it to me and I'll make a 383 out of it!

Just kidding... well kinda. Find some low mileage Vortec heads in the boneyard. Sometimes you find them for $75 each. That's a bolt on 40HP.
The block is already almost torn down. In another 30 min, you could have it at the machine shop and bore it .030 over and get the compression up with new pistons. Those Sealed powers are fine. Cast pistons are A-OK for marine use. Total machine shop bill would be about $350 on the block and you would KNOW it was done right.

But if you want I'll drive up there and get it off your hands for you!

I know where your are coming from....read my last post ^^^^........And i agree another couple hundred bucks to get the compresion up.

Anyway.....I have to stick with my budget and it add's up quick...... $150 for the heads and this and that...Ya know what i mean!
Plus i have everything sitten in front me to put it back together.

What do think about the spray tack....Or install the heads dry?

Not looking for a race boat...but a reliable ride!

I always install my head gaskets dry as a bone. Pay very close attention to the head bolt holes. I like to take a small wire brush hooked to the end of a drill and clean them up. (Actually it's a .45 cal wire brush from a cheap-o gun cleaning kit.)

You wil need new head bolts. The originals are going to be 1) brittle and 2) stretched. ARP has a great set on Summit.

Got the motor back together over the weekend........

I wanted to go with new head bolts, but couldnt wait another 3 days to get them from Summit...plus another hundred bucks.
Check at Auto zone and Oriely's and they had them...but of course another $75 bucks for a set....looked at them and they seamed to be cheap nock offs....So i went with the originals.

I know dont be a cheap a**..... but my wife is about to kill me for all the money im spending. Plus back in the day we never had any problems with using the same head bolts.....Any way i know ill hear it from you guy's

Ayuh,.... Chevy head bolts are Not torque to yield,...

I always reuse the head bolts,...
