Re: China Made Boats

Actually no one has a richer boat building tradition than the Chinese. They were building ships (junks) and sailing around the world before the Phoenicians. As for Chinese merchandise flooding our markets, like everything else we only have ourselves to blame.

Not me!,,, lol,,, that's NAFTA at work, isn't it great? NOT!!!

NAFTA doesn't affect trade with China, just Canada and Mexico, and it's a GOOD thing. If everything that we bought from China were mfg'd in Mexico instead, we wouldn't have a problem with illegal immigrants coming here to look for work.

IMNSHO (In My Not So Humble Opinion), we should be taxing goods from China at twice or three times the current rate to encourage manufacturing in Mexico and other countries whose economic growth would benefit us.

Re: China Made Boats

Speaking of China, I was a little disgusted with Christmas this year. Seemed like everything was made in china. They should put that on the outside of the packaging instead of the inside, I'd be less likely to buy products that I knew were made in China, or some other countries (N. Korea, Syria, etc).

That is why we avoided buying at Wal Mart this year. We did (inevitably) end up with a few Made In China goods, but for the most part avoided buying them. Also- it is Hecho in Mexico. I should know- I work as a manager in a maquilladora in Reynosa, Mexico.

I went to get some new running shows -- and found I could still get a pair made in the US by buying New Balance. I thought that was pretty cool.

I listened to the interview of a lady author that wrote a book on how she and her family of four, went an entire year without buying anything made in China. She said it was real tough but they were able to do it. Amazon.com: A Year Without "Made in China": One Family's True Life

If all parts come from China and assembled in the USA. And then put a Mercury engine on it. Can the dealer claim the boat made in USA?

No, (I think) in the motorcycle industry 60 % of the parts must be made in the usa.I would imagine boats to be somewhat the same since its government mandated.Working for a chinese powersports importer for years,I have seen some amazing things from china, some stuff you would never thought to be made overseas,,much less china....

Dont even get me started on jet ski's !!!!!!!!!!

Just like the great USA, I'm sure China manufactures some great boats and some real junk. Personally, I'd rather have a great boat from the US even if she costs more.
