I am in the process of doing my yearly once over mainteance and I noticed a small (pencil eraser sized) chip in my fiberglass on the bottom of the hull. possibly cause when I hit a submerged log over the summer. It doesn't penetrate the hull but I can see the fiberglass (??). what is the best way to fix this. I assume just putting some marine grade poly is not the way to go? what about using a fiberglass repair kit. ??
thanks in advance,
Bob

Re: Chip in hull

PICs are always good, but from the sound of it you just need some gelcoat paste. If you're not picky about color matching you can get premixed white, or get Neutral and add your own coloring agents to try and match what you have.

Wash the area well with acetone(I like using an old Toothbrush) and then fill the hole with the paste leaving it "HIGH". Either add wax to the gel or Spray some PVA to make it cure. Next day sand and fair and you're done.

Re: Chip in hull

Its just an air void most likely ..

Leave it be until you have more of them to fix :) ..

It will not hurt anything leaving it be.
