Re: Chocolate milk grease in cv joint bellows

Sweet antique shopping is one of my hobbies (lol HAHAHAHA)

this will be fun

now If I find an Alpha 1 for a few dollars would that be an easy bolt on or what would I have to change.
even if i find one that i have to rebuild. would it be easier to find parts

Ive seen other posts saying to drop the 120 and get a alpha so thats why i ask.

would it be cheeper to change over or would it be about the same

Even the cutout in the transom is different from a MC-1 and newer drives, close but no cigar. You need to replace everything, even then trying to adapt your older engine to the complete transom shield and drive will be a bit of a hassle.

So scratch that idea.

where should I start looking for the parts online or even a parts catalog.
my local shop can find them i hope if i hit a wall.

Parts you are going to need.

Front seal part number 26-36054, supersedes to 26-823894 (interestingly it's the same seal used on the front of the Gen IIs)
Large 'o' ring 25-35984 s/s to 25-70937
Top cover 'o' ring 25-32546

You are also going to need uni's, and a gimbal bearing.
Uni joints (2 required) part number -36312, s/s to -75832T
Gimbal bearing part number 30-36418

You might need a front bearing pack (requires 2 of these bearings) 31-35988A12

Most of these parts are available on iBoats, just put the part number I have supplied into the search bar and the sierra/GLM/Mallory part will come up... Add it to your cart and move to the next part.

As Don has already suggested, BEFORE YOU ORDER ANY PARTS, open the drive up, strip it down and inspect everything very carefully. if you need a gear-set, you're screwed. They are NLA (No Longer Available)...
