I have a 1987 Chris Craft Scorpion 210 ltd, 350 OMC 260 h.p. The prop that is on it now is ss 14 1/2 x 19 and also has a SE hydrafoil. WOT is right at 3000 and top speed is only around 25 mph. Boat runs excellent and gets tubers and skiers up without any problems, just looking for more top end.

Thanks, Bob

First id go to the I/O forums and find out the mfg's stated rpm range, then drop the foil.. ....verify your tach and motor condition....3000 rpm @ wot seems far to low for a 5.7 chevy...more like 4000-4200 but i really dunno..;)

I know nothing about a Scorpion but name sounds like it should be fast.
260 hp 21 ft I would think close to 50+ and it should twist a 19" pitch way up there.Probably when running right should run a pitch in the 20s.
As suggested by gunner lose the foil.If running right it will plane.
Do a compression test, check that the throttle is opening all the way.
prop in good shape, bottom clean.Something is whacky.

Throttle opens up fine. Had it in neutral yesterday and popped it up to around 4800 no problem.

Umm dont do that again in neutral... But if i am reading this right 3000 rpm when the boat is running at top speed and you can disengage the drive and get 4800..

I have a 4.3 in my Chris Craft and I had a 19" pitch prop on it. I now have a 4 blade 18" pitch prop on it. But mine is a mercruiser. Your RPMs sound really low. SS has a harder bite but you also have more power so it should spin it no problem. You don't happen to have a voltmeter that will measure rpms do you? I just checked at this site http://www.piranha.com/motor_specs.php?id=2916 and it says that your rpms should be between 4200 and 4600 rpms. I would verify that the tach works right first and then move onto other causes. A tach is relatively cheap and if thats the problem you can probably change props to get better performance. I have also heard that if the bottom of the boat is mucked it will really harm performance...But if it is that and it causes that much performance degradation I would be really surprised. My boat will do 45-50 gps when I am running in it alone. Yours shouldn't be that much less.

Reving in neutral means nothing.Probably could do it on 1/2 throttle and or only 6 cylinders and seem near normal to the untrained eye/ear.

I have an 86 Scorpion 210 with a 260 Mercruiser. I have a 14.5 19P stainless 3 blade. The boat does 48 (GPS) at 4200 RPM indicated. I had a 23P SS prop onit when I first got the boat- it would do 53-54 MPH, but was bad out of the hole.

You have something else wrong I would say. Let us know how you make out.
