Re: chrysler 55hp firing problem.

what do you mean set contact at WOT .....that has nothing to do with it ....you set the gap with the heel of the contacts on the highest part of the cam .. ie turn the crankshaft until you get maximum gap and then adjust it to 20 thou...make sure the one piece key is good and ligned up ..this keeps the contact cam ring in allignment with the flywheel magnets .....

Re: chrysler 55hp firing problem.

What he mean is the Throttle is set to WOT, Then gapped the points at 0.20 gap.
This is how the manual is showing it.

As for your spark. We have to find out if you have an off spark or a weak spark. I would go back and re check the gaps of the point, They are very picky on these old motors. .001 off and the motor will let you know. Next I would look at the condenser.

I dont care what the manual says ..gap is 20 thou with the heel on the highest part of the cam and you will only be sure if the spark is OK if it will jump a 1/4 in gap in air ..plugs hanging on the wires is no indication nor is the colour of the spark or how fat it is ..Check that key for alignment

ok so i check the points there right on .20.so i put all back together and it ran like a charm.for a little bit now im back to the same problem.im going to go buy some new points and see if it not that maybe there finish.how can you tell there finish.and by the way fucawi i have not key way.it keep braking so i lock tight the cam.and press pin the flywheel.so it run all independent.

Re: chrysler 55hp firing problem.

yes I did the same ....ground a flat behind the cam ring and loctite it ...did you fit it " This Side Up"...its marked ....seperate key for flywheel .. So even if it slips it wil still run ..I assume you have battery coil igniton.. mark the flywheel and shaft with paint so you can tell if it moves
