There is so much that could be wrong here.

1st and foremost, Drain your lower gear oil and refill with fresh gear oil.. (Make sure you use the drain and not the pivot pin)
use a clean container so you can see what the oil looks like.

Now when you put it in gear do you hear any odd noises? It it engauging fully?
Are you running on both cylinders?

Next, is your engine running up to full power? Sparking on both cylinders?

To help better. What year is your Chrysler 55?

it revs up fine and it dosnt make any funny noise.I can put it in neutral and it will idle i can rev it up and it aint doin nothin either way i take it.I was lookin around and somone said it could be the pin behind the propeller.but if it doesnt have gear oil in it will it do that.i figured it would move just over heat and burn up

If you are worried that there is no gear oil in the lower unit you can always check. Remove the lower lube oil screw, then remove the upper lube vent screw. If nothing comes out of the lower hole, there is no oil in the lower unit and you've got a problem. Running the motor without gear oil in the lower unit is horribly bad for the gears and will ultimately destroy the gears and most likely your drive shaft as well. $5 in gear oil and another $5 for a pump to insert it and you'll know for sure.

Yes, it can and will burn it up..
I would think the clutch dogs would burn/wear out. Or you would lock up the lower unit and break hard parts.

Could be the pin. That's not hard to check. Pull the cotter pin and spin off the cone. From here you'll see the pin in the center of the prop. Remove the pin and your prop will simply pull off. You'll see the pin there.
While your at it. Take a large straight blade screw driver and remove the drain plug, See what come out. If nothing comes out then you need to pull the lower unit and inspect.

ok but if it had no gear oil in it would it not move the bat at all.i figured it would move it till it burns it up.i havnt checked yet and i will but ive been lookin around and i hear the shear pin break alot on chrylser motors.if so how hard is it to replace and is that possible that it could be the problem.the only reason i dont think it is the shear pin is because i can grab the propeller and turn the whole motor over when its in gear.Im a mechanic by day so i can work pretty good with any motor just my first time with a boat.

Is the drivshaft engaged when you set the gearcase in forward/revers? Check. when turning the prop the flywheel should also turn.
That engine do not have any sharepin if the propshaft has spline. The pin behind the propcone is a drivepin. You might have a spun hub.
The drivshaft would turn when turning the prop by hand but in the water you have the engine under load and the hub will spun and the engine just revs up but not move.

how hard is it to replace the hub.i checked the lower unit grase and it was a little milky like it had gotten a lttle bit of water in it but not much. But on these motors is it easy to replace the hub and about how much would it be in parts

It is easier to buy a new/used prop. Do not think you can replace the hub. A prop is about 50-100 dollars on ebay.

The pin is not a shearpin it is a drivepin. The hub is instead of the shearpin. The gearcase will go into gear even if the hub is spun. If the engine revs up but you do not get any speed then the hub is spun.
