Hello I have a 1969 DOU with a 1974 Chrysler 55HP Serial 554HA I was wondering what all the part numbers for auto part stores for electrical items like condensers and points and anything else might help me out. My motor is getting spark and getting fuel I dont know if the timing is out or not but I figure Ill just purchase all the parts have them all brand new then take it to a mechanic and have them put it on. I can work on cars but not boats, they confuse me.

Re: Chrysler Help

Not many have a "parts list" for these motors. I'm not sure many survived.

However lets break this down.
You can work on cars. A 2 cycle isn't much different then a car engine.. They both still require the basic 3. Air, Fuel and Spark. If you have those, then you should fire.

What is or isn't your outboard doing..
Does it run?
Are you getting spark on both cylinders?
If you can get a hold of a timing light, you can check spark while the engine is running. Yes. these outboards will run on one cylinder. The other cylinder will kind of Diesel when running and be severely under powered.

Buzz is right, you need to check more before you spend the dough. These motors are just as simple as an old Ford truck with points. What ignition system do you have? Magneto or electronic? The NAPA part # for condensors is FM200 (mag ign), and I could get the points cheaper from Iboats. If it is magneto ignition and one is bad, then Franz @ Franzmarine may have one.

Re: Chrysler Help

Well I fixed my problem I picked up an running 1975 Mercury 50HP And the price was perfect free I just had to drag 3 old aluminum boats away and I got to keep the scrap money from them so technically I got paid for a running motor
