Re: Cincinnati Chile

There used to be a restaurant in Norman, Ok called Denco's. It was a throwback to the '40's.

Never updated it's menu or nothin'.

We used to go in there and have "Two Darlin's Lookin' at ya".

This was the name they had for a plate of elbow macaroni covered with chili (It's an "i" at the end, not an "e") and then topped with two fried eggs, sunny side up.

Pretty darn good when you'd been out all night.

The building was so close to the RR tracks that when the trains rolled through the regulars knew to cover their food so that the sand that shook out of the mortar of the brick wall wouldn't land in your food.

I love chili, but now that I am recently divorced, it's back to Stag chili in a can. :(

I love Cincy chile....never had the Skyline chile. My mother told me about it. I stayed a few days with friends in Cincinatti and they took me to Goldstar Chile if I recall correctly..

Anywho, its the same way my mother made it....and we lived within a few hours from Cinc. Was my favorite winter food.. :)

Yea oddjob, every year Goldstar and Skyline have a cook off. I think it's at the taste of Cincinnati events that they do it.

Well I'll consider myself lucky on this one as it seems it came in under the radar. :D ;)

BTW I know what you mean by "concoctions" fixed dinner last night at MILs, Smoked Turky, gravey, mashed potatoes and peas..both MrsLink and MIL (LIKE LITTLE KIDS) spread out mashed potatoes then filled with peas "Birds nest" then poured gravey over it. Ewwwwwww why do I try!
A: They like it that way and
B: They knew it was quietly driving me nuts!

BTDT ;)
