Re: Circuit City is closing

I worked in the car stereo installation bay there after I graduated high school, stayed with them a couple years trying to get on full time. I worked just under the legal limit for hours every week for part time pay & no benefits. I kept getting told that I would be moved to full time soon, probably next month. I finally got sick of it and quit. They had a nasty habit of promoting people to manager positions that had recently opened up then deleting the position laying off the person.

When I first worked there they still worked off commission so there was actually a reason for some of the sales people to have a tiny bit of knowledge of the products they were selling.. Then they did away with that and it became almost impossible to get a technical question about anything answered and you might as well have forgotten about calling them on the phone.

I had some co-workers that stayed until the bitter end most of them through the re-structuring crap so I figured I would cruise in and look for some deals, the CD's & DVD's had the biggest (cough) markups at 30% while most everything else was 10%. Lots of items were marked "clearance" items and they didn't qualify for the store closing discount.

Don't waste your money or gas even driving up there to check it out the prices are still jacked up through the roof and the discounts they are claiming aren't available on half the items and not enough to bring the prices down much at all.

That's what I heard from some guys in my class, they jacked up the prices to give "30%" discounts. It's bull. Let them eat that merchandise.

We checked out the local CC and all the prices were above the competitors normal price. When they took the 10% discount off at the register you were back to retail. Linens and Things did the same thing and both merited an expose' on the local TV channels for price gouging their so called "closing down sale."
