Can anyone help on how to clean the bilge area of a boat to large to pull out just clean.I don't want to just pump it out in our lake?I've been told to add powder "TIDE" in the bilge and it will soak up the oil and residue and pump it overboard.Any help would be great.

Re: Clean Bilge??

delta breeze...more of us should be concerned about emptying the bilge into lakes, streams and waterways. To clean the bilge and rid it of grease, oil and grime I recommend bone of the many "bilge cleaners" on the market. They break down grease and grime and are bio degradable. Price will be dependent on amounts needed (size of boat and bilge) I use one quart for a 19 foot boat and it's more than sufficient ($5-6). For the once a year bilge cleaning, I remove the in-line fuse so that the bilge does not automatically turn on...then add the bilge cleaner and a few gallons of water, let it sit for an hour or so then pump the bilge slime into a busket. On a small boat like mine, I just hold the bucket under the output and catch it all, then dispose of it PROPERLY. We all should do our part to reduce polution...hope this helps.
