Cleaning IAC

2007 5.0mpi SN 0W68iforgettherest 2 wire iac. Should the iac be spring loaded? I have seen pics of them with a spring, but mine doesn't have a spring, nor does it stay open or closed, just kinda stays put if I move the valve. Is this normal? Having issues dying when returning to idle.

Many do some don't. Your design could be either depending on when manufactured. I would not give it much thought so far as design.

Your having trouble with idle?

On muffs it stumbles pretty good and occasionally dies with a quick return to idle. In gear it stumble really hard and dies if I dont bring it to idle slowly. Probably going to have to order a scanner at this point.

Is it idling to slow?
Giving it a slight increase in throttle does it stay running?

If both are true, I'll assume you have cleaned the IAC. It may just need replacing.

The idle is smooth and consistent, and shows 550 on the tac for what that's worth. It has no issues or surging at idle, just returning to idle quickly. The iac shows 10ohms, and is obviously working to some degree.

Putting a scanner on the motor you could see if the IAC counts were normal (around 40 at idle). If it is in the normal area and does stall, just means the IAC is unable to react fast enough to keep it idling.

IACs do need to be cleaned, with carb cleaner, and the IAC muffler should all be replaced as part of the annual maintenance.

10Ω is right for the resistance. And the spindle should move fairly easily...

Agree with cleaning, but disagree with cab cleaner. List in the manual use noncostic cleaning solution .

I'm not sure what the deal is, but it was fine on the water today. I didn't actually clean it, as it wasn't really dirty at all. I did put a few drops of dry silicone lube on the shaft and tried to work it inside. It still drives me nuts that it cranks for nearly 2 seconds before it fires up, but it does start.

First launch was a breeze and first recovery was a little bumpy. Not too bad for a first timer.
