Neither. OEM is the only good one. They're available, via CD, on ebay.

If I was desperate, I'd go with Seloc.

I agree with DJ - they're both terrible. Try to get a factory manual.

seloc is to keep the oil off the driveway, clymer for the outhouse.

I've only used Seloc because you can find them cheap on ebay.

It's also nice to have more than one manual to compare methods and photos.

a little more on the subject . . . .

OEM would be my first choice. They are usually more year and model specific.

Seloc and Clymer cover a range of years and models and can be confusing to a novice.

Any experienced mechanic should be able to use any manual, unless it contains erroneous data.

You could also post the year and model of your engine and we can find you the real OEM manual.
Those manuals on CD usually are not the greatest...most are copies of the Seloc book.

I have a 1970 85 hp evinrude. The model number is 85093d

You guys are such a big help. I know nothing at all about boats, however I am a auto machanic and can turn a wrench. I got to this web site from brotherhood of catfish someone there had this site. This is just what I need to get my 1977 ranger ready for some good catfishing this spring. Once again I thank all of yous for being such a big help.

Here is one on Ebay,Its for a Johnson but basically the same book.
Email the seller,His name is Jon,Tell him Gary in NC sent you.He may have the Evinrude book also.He is a great guy and will find you what you need.He has hundreds of manuals.

I got a hold of the guy, he does have the evinrude and its on the way, thanks a lot.
