clicking sound when in nuetral

I just purchased a 1997 tracker pro 18 with a mercury 40hp 2 stroke. I just got it running yesterday for the first time. It ran good ,went in and out of gear easily, I noticed when I put it in nuetral it made a clicking sound. It didnt do it ever time and it didnt do it when it was in gear. Could it be a cable adjustment or something worse?

Yes, thats the cable adjustment favoring the gear you just shifted out of.

Thanks laddies.....Dont no which cable to adjust....But I,ll do some research and figure it out....
