I have a Clinton Engines Corp. thought to be 5 h.p., Model J-9, S/N 77895, air cooled motor with most everything covered with 5-6 coats of house paint. The exhaust housing is broken from the exhaust manifold and a local tech thinks he can heliarc the break. I'd like to know the year and if there is any parts source.

Thanks for any help.

I don't have specific year info but my manual indicates the J9 appeared in 1960 and ran through to 68.I'm pretty sure the housing won't weld very well but you have nothing to lose.Clinton has been gone for some time but try this nmber for parts.1-563-652-2411.
The motor has an aircooled power head and a water cooled exhaust leg.
Sounds to me like it would make a good parts source for a better motor.
If it was mine I wouldn't spend too much time or money on it.
If a good Evinrude 1960 5.5 was rated at a 10 out of 10 In my opinion a good 5 Clinton would be about a 4 or 5 out of 10.They are a cheap way to get into boating but not the best way.

Thanks, we share your opinion... I'll likely spend more time on a 56 5 1/2 Johnson. Chuck
