Closed Cooling System

I have a 1948 Tiara 23 foot Continential. Engine is a 260 mercrusier with a closed cooling system. How often shoud the engine thermosat and the anti-freeze be changed...and is there any maintainance necessary on a closed system...

Mercruiser recommends every 5 years for replacing the coolant if you are using extended life coolant. If not, then every 2 years.
The thermostat on a closed cooling system gets replaced when it fails.

Thanks Don....Is it OK to use a name brand such as Prestone??? About the mix...50%water 50% antifreeze?
