Closing in transom

I have a 1985 17ft Proline CC. I am tired of water coming in through the transom cutout. I would like to close in the transom and add a bracket with flotation to support the extra weight of the motor setback. I'm currently running a Johnson 115. Does anyone make a bracket for a boat this small. I was also hoping to gain some performance with this setup. Any feedback on this idea would be appreciated.

Re: Closing in transom

There are some who have made their own brackets. Also, adding foam to the bracket would not make it float any higher, it doesn't work that way. It would only help if the boat actually swamped. Good luck...

Re: Closing in transom

I have heard that a company called Stainless Marine makes a bracket that adds 315lbs of extra flotation to compensate for the setback of the motor. Just wondering if anyone has a small boat with a closed transom and a bracket that could give me some advice. I wouldn't even know where to start if I was building my own.
