I have a boat that we run the river with....(16 foot with 75 Mariner) and I am sooo tired of rebuilding the power tilt and trim, paying 600 for the elctric motor is driving me nuts! CMC seems to have a good idea here? Any comments or concerns with them? Thanks

I love my PT-130:D

It gives me the option of running older outboards that are lacking TnT, which is nice.

Makes swapping motors a breeze as well.

I have my 115 inline 6 hanging off a cmc pt-130 and i LOVE it!. its a pretty quick trim. Plus there is the added advantage of 5-6" setback off the transom, which increases handling tremendously and allows the motor to be set up higher.

When rebuilding power trim, cutting corners will bite you in the ***. Do a complete rebuild all at once paying attention to even the smallest detail and you won't have to rebuild it again for another 15 years. It should cost about $200 to make the hydraulics like new. Motor is another story. cheap chinese may or may not last. Parker Hannafin is the OEM and nothing of theirs is ever cheap to buy.

I personally, am a huge fan of original trims whenever possible and within budget.

Well thats good to hear!....Chris it is a 1986, the square style "B" electric motor is almost 850 buck locally. I need to replace it again after 3 years. I like the 6 inch set back and as Huron said I can run older engines (which I am a big fan of). I don't know wheather I have a bad casting on my PT-T or the seals just go bad but they get water in them alot. I have futzed with this thing tooo many times.??? Thank you al for the feed back!

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

Rit, 3 years ago in the spring the TnT gave me the old solonid click and after checking it over this year with help from great people on this forum I narrowed it down to the motor....long story short I had to remove PnT to find out my electric motor was soaked (water) AGAIN. When I called my local supplier they told me between 800 and 850 bucks.....I guess I am just frusterated? I am very big on prevenative maint. and this is my 17th boat I guess I am just at the point that I want to hook up after work go to the river and fish, have fun with the family etc. However I do love working on my boats, I guess it is when I want to not when I need to LOL!

ARCO made PTT motors for many Merc units. They were in the $200 range. Also, the motors have an oring to seal them from water injestion, where they bolt to thePpTT unit. Did you have one of those?

$850? run away.

I wonder if the later model single ram would fit you engine? A lot of later 75HP engines came with the option of either single ram manual trim or three ram power. The manual trim could be converted to power trim by either buying a whole new system or replacing the manual pump with an electric pump. Might be worth checking into if you want that factory look. But, then again, a 198x mercury isn't worth much money whether it has trim or not. With a kicker you can recoup more of your money.

Rit, I have rebuilt numerous outboards from the bottom up, I do not consider myself an expert, i have fixed some hairey situation many miles offshore yet I am no mechanic.....that is why I am back on Iboats Forums!!!...the best that I can figure, and from the other motors I have seen they do not have the "hex" drive end on them, and the height may be an issue it is stuffed in there pretty good? But I cannot say yes or no....a less expensive alternative would be nice because I do like the stock set up!...I sent the remnants of the motor to a local alt and Gen shop to see if they can rebuild it, waiting to here back about it! Yes I did replace the Oring last time and even hit it with a thin coat of RTV (not suggested I know but I love that stuff LOL)

keep an eye out for a used cmc. I picked mine up for 300.00 off of craigslist, barely used. I think i got a heckuva deal. Mercury inlines are notorious for their bad factor 2 cyl trim. They pretty much sagged straight from the factory, lol.

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

I had a CMC130 on my BW Striper. I hated it.

It was tilt only and wouldn't hold position on plane. I really wanted to be able to set trim in low speed like a good PT&T and I wanted it to stay there.

Fix your PT&T so that it won't break (you may have been fixing symptoms and not causes).

If you're looking at $800 then you may want to research the later model trim. Check out a 1997 75hp for example. Your three ram trim is replaced with an empty bracket. A ram almost exactly like your existing center ram mounts onto the bracket. The pump is higher pressure so that the single ram can do both tilt and trim up to 130HP. The good thing about that style trim is that has very solid resale value. Mercury used it on a ton of engines up until just a year or two ago.

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

JB and Rit....NOTED I am going to a local "boat graveyard" where I know there are a few newer style engines there. I really want to keep the original PT-T.....as for fixing symtoms and not causes, may be very true. I am fixing the same thing over and over...may need to dig in deeper. I just want to know why this motor keeps getting so wet.

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

Engine, When I replaced the PTT motor with an ARCO on my '93 Merc V6, it came with an adaptor which had the hex end. The adaptor slipped over the end of the armature. The mechanic who was to install it, thought it was the wrong motor, because he didn't look thru the box for the adaptor, and didn't read the instructions.

Just one more data point

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

Thanks Chris...Well went to the graveyard and found a 1991...by the tape measure it should fit. It is three wire and looks to be in good shape/ We put power to it and it seemed to work ok, good news is it has the right motor on it I need. Worse comes to worse I will have a frakentilt? update you next week when it warms up a bit!

Re: CMC Power Tilt and Trim...anyone running one?

I used to run one on my old boat with an 85hp OMC V4. I thought it worked great, no complaints whatsoever.
