I have an 18' starcraft super sport rated for a 150hp motor, right now there is a 1976 johnson 135 on it with no power trim, I'm thinking about putting power trim on it next spring but i can't find a stock one for the life of me, so i was thinking of putting one of the CMC units on. Does anyone have any thoughts about this? Will me transom be able to handle the extra leverage from the motor being it will stick out 6"? Also the ones i have seen for sale are rated for 130hp and i have a 135, i have had someone tell me that it will still be fine but i am skeptical.

Maybe Watermann can fill you in on what he found out. He is a very similar situation only with a 140 on his SS.

Your 135 will be fine on a PT 130 for this reason. The PT 130 came out after the manufacturers changed the ratings to propshaft hp. Your motor is a crank rated 135 hp motor so it's propshaft HP will be around 110-120 hp. If your transom is in good condition it should handle the weight fine.

Why are you skeptical about the CMC? I have 2 of them and they are way over built , much stronger than they need to be with 1/2" thick extruded aluminum and the ram is rated for over 7000 Lbs of thrust. You don't say what year your set up is. Newer motors weigh more than older motors and are rated at the prop rather than the flywheel. If your boat is in good shape and doesn't have a failing transom then there's no reason to worry about the motor weight. It's the same amount of weight with the set back or not.

I'm going to use the CMC on my 18' SS with a 140 Merc. I have no doubt it will work great.
