Didn't mean it as a character rip, that probably came off harsher than it was meant. I ever see you on the water we can laugh about it over a cold beer, I'm buying.

No problem we are all entitled to our opinion at least until our friendly government decides we aren't for safety. I really do think about what I say since I don't like apologizing & I definitely am not bashful with my opinions which is GOOD & BAD at times.

As for meeting that would be GREAT I am actually very social & really like meeting new friends. I am weird though in that I don't drink alcoholic beverages so if it is OK I will have a cold Sobe Water or Coke :D

Side Note:
I really have noticed since buying the boat that the majority of boaters are extremely helpful & friendly & I look forward to some GREAT new friends.

So in a harbor such as Puget Sound, is every commercial vessel of a certain size escort by CG?

A few years ago when I had my bass boat my buddies and I went fishing at night on the Detroit river and I was NOT paying much attention around me becase we catching big walleyes. The next thing I knew there was a lake freighter about 12' away  Don't think I didn't do a lot of scrambling and praying as I was trying to start my boat and get the H*LL outa there :D My fishing buddies almost had to clean out their pants after that one

commercial vessels typically do not get escorts. Cruise ships do--I guess they are a terrorist target. Navy warships often have some escorts usually navy but not always, depends on the boat. The most serious warnings we hear concern subs moving out. But there are Navy harbor patrols working around the various Navy docks who will be watching, also patrolling when they open the fences, move in/out of dry dock, etc. USCG and local LEO will sometimes join in, as if coordinated by Homeland Security.

But you know the warships have a lot of other protections you can't see--and won't hear if they open up on you. There is also probably surveillance way up high.

After 9/11 all the boats in docks had sandbagged gun installments set up on the seaward side, to prevent a Cole-type attack, but now they have the fences, or pull a barge along the exposed side.

Again, it's not about the small boat's safety; it's the big boat's security.

On 12 OCT 00, the USS Cole (DDG 67) was the target of a terrorist attack. Terrorists, using an explosive-laden skiff, pulled alongside and blew a hole in the side, killing and injuring many US Sailors. I know that sometimes we have concerns about feeling like the little man, but I think when it comes to our military, we should stay as FAR away from these vessels as possible. Big ships also have important cargo, or in the case of cruise ships, hundreds of passengers to worry about. The flashbangs may seem egregious, but some of the stuff dumb people do, like pulling up to a cruise ship, is just dumb.
