First of all I wanted to say that this is a great site and very informative. I just got a new to me Cobia bay boat it will need a full restore at least the stringers and deck but I'm sure the transom as well. I am new to the glass work but after reading posts on here I think I can might it work. I have a lot if questions and will start slow. When you say (PB) that means spreading the resin down to lay the stringer and transom in correct? What are you using as the filler in the resin? Next question do you lay the stringer in with it wet or let it harden? What is everyone's opinion on the poured transom? It looks very solid and maybe easier to do.

Welcome. I'm in the process of rebuilding my skiff as well. It helped me a lot to just keep reading and watching videos as I continued to work on the boat. There's a lot to learn in here. Good luck.

I may also be able to help, I just restored my skiff. I stopped documenting it here as I didn't find I had the time and energy to do so, but this site helped me through all of it with the wealth of knowledge on here. I actually still have a long way to go. I still need to strip some paint i put on the topside temporarly and fill in the csm and sand and then paint to get that smooth look. I also did some wood work with stained ply that I would like to redo with mohogny $$$. But for $1500 total investment I have a new boat! I need about $500 more for the accessories (kit for controls, bimini).
Good luck and let us know what you need.

Also, I would just go with mated ply for the transom. You seal it well and it will last a lifetime.

Yes I will need the help being my first glass job. I think I can do it and make it look good. I will have to post some pictures of the state it is in currently.

I did a 18 foot Cobia sunskiff. Not sure about yours but mine had a rolled lip so it was right easy. Ive looked at a lot of cobias like the one I have and 9 times out of 10 they all needed a transom. Go with the plywood, its not that bad. US Composites has the best prices I could find on resin (hope that doesn't offend anyone here)
Good Luck!

I have found a poly resin on Amazon and you don't have to pay the large freight amount. What are your thoughts on this?

No it's in 5 gallon buckets but doesn't come with the hardner. It says marine grade poly resin. I will paste the description below. 5 gallon of Isophathelic polyester marine grade resin unwaxed laminating resin for boats, yachts, cars etc. Higher mechanic properties & higher corrosion resistant than regular gp resin. Hardener is not included. Need to buy it separately & will be shipped separately too. http://s1375.photobucket.com/user/H...Uploads/image_zps23b6dcfc.jpg.html?sort=3&o=0 http://s1375.photobucket.com/user/H...Uploads/image_zpsbc59280f.jpg.html?sort=3&o=2

I did some checking. They are a Canadian Company. You DO have to Pay shipping for the MEKP and is Suspect if you contact them you'll discover it will be a HEFTY shipping Fee Due to EPA regulations State Side!!!! There's NO getting around that. Where are you located?? Their resin is $130.00 shipped with no MEKP USC's is $175 shipped with MEKP IF you can get the MEKP shipped for less than $45 bucks you might save a few bucks but then there's the question of is their resin the same quality as USC's and they are NOT an American Company. Again not sure where you're located but there may be other options for you.

Jackson, MS. I was going to get the MEKP from UsComposites. I might just get it all there anyway.

Well I KNOW they're a reputable company and sell good products. Shipping Hazardous Materials IS expensive and there's no getting around that. I always shop for the best prices but then there are times when you get what you pay for!!!;)

Haymon don't know what quantity you are buying but I had 20gal of resin, 50yds of mat, 30yds of 1708 and a bunch of little stuff trucked to a terminal in Memphis for $137 (I'm sure they have terminals in Jackson). All you need is a pickup truck. That was from USC and you don't have to pay the $26 per pail hazmat fee.

If I wanted to add a below deck fuel tank can I modify the center stringer? I only have a limited space between the stringers.

I considered that with mine - but when I thought about how much fuel I use versus how much I really need I decided against it. I grew up with portable tanks and on an old boat they came in handy once when when we ran out of gas after miscalculating our usage and had to beach the boat and take a walk to fill up. There's also going to be an issue with running a fill line to the tank - at least I would think there would be on a rolled hull boat..

By modifying you mean cut it down and lessen it's Height Dimension, I'd seriously discourage you from doing that. That Center Stringer is Known as the KEEL and it's the BACKBONE of your boat. You don't want to do anything to weaken that!!!!

When I say rolled lip I mean the boat does not have a liner. Cobia makes them both ways with and without a liner. Without a liner is easy just cut the floor out put in new wood and glass. If it has a liner you have to unbolt or remove rivits around the edge and either cut it at the floor or remove the floor and liner together. Mine was 18 foot and did not have a center stringer just a flat stiffener that I replaced with PVC pipe/drain i could have put a tank in the floor but it already had an aluminum above deck under the splash well in the back so I used that. I have start to finish pics on my FB page. PM me if you want and Ill give you my info so you can look at what I did.
