I had some issues with that too.. I kept grinding - looking for the original layers of glass to show up and they just wouldn't. By the time I thought I was getting to the glass I actually started going through gel-coat and then realized I has gone through the hull. It all really depends on how your boat was built and what the original layups actually looked like. Mine was covered in inch thick PB everywhere, which made it really hard to determine what was going on.

There is a lot of rough patches. I think I am close just have more to go. The 24 grit pads seem to do the best. The sanding wheels from do ok until they cake up and then they seem useless. I am rack g against the clock on fiverglass work. I didn't realize the resin wouldn't stay ok until spring. If I have to I can take it to work and heat up the paint booth to get it to a warm environment.

My supplier told me 90 days shelf life for poly resin. After that it'd probably still work but who knows how well.

Left unopen in a cool dry place, it'll last till spring. You're MEKP won't!! Resin Will!! I've had resin last for over a year. MEKP can go bad in a Week if it gets in the sun and gets hot.

I am mixing my resin using the metric system for example for every 500ML I am adding 5ML of hardner. Am I doing it correctly and is that a 1% batch?

It is. And some say we can't understand the metric system... If you just move the decimal two places to the left you are done for 1%. If you want a different % mix just multiply so in your example for a 2% mix 5x2=10ml or for 75% 5x.75=3.75ml. So how come I always flunked math?

Ok I was able to get the transom installed today. It didn't go as I had planned but I think it worked out ok. I couldn't get the clamps to work as I would have liked so I went to plan b before I started. My first batch of PB was way to thick and the second very runny but combined it seemed to work good. My last batch of PB ( of course smaller) was great. I think it will be very strong plus there is sheet of diamond plate that was there before.

Well I have been able to get some more work done. I am tabbing the transom and have some questions.

I wasn't ablevto get a full price of 1708 to cover the transom. I centered my price and priced in the sides. How do I need to do the second layer?

I am also going to glass it over the side of the boat.

I'd recommend starting at the edges first, and working towards the center. Same way on the second just extend the tabbings on the edges out about 3" -6" further than the first.

I will do that and I also have my corner and bottom tabbing under the large portions of 1708.
