Other than not being advisable and obviously not good for the ujoints.
What kind of issues could be caused by starting the engine (5.7 cobra) in neutral with the drive in the up position for a few moments ( 10 secs) as long as there is a water supply to the water intakes on the drive? Could this do any damage to the ujoint bellows?

Re: Cobra drive question

It shouldn't harm the bellows. The only risk is to the u-joints and gimbal bearing and even that shouldn't be too bad if the RPMs are low.

Re: Cobra drive question

Howdy,

Just about all the manufacturers recommend NOT running the engine with the drive all the way up.

The u-joints can com unglued with catastrophic results. I know people do it all the time. I wouldn't run the drive up any higher than the equivalent left-right turn.

Re: Cobra drive question

If you do this directly off the trailerm you will form a big air bubble in the drive and the water pump will loose prime. The reprime you have to pull off the trailer and lower drive to empty water, then put back in the water and lower before starting the engine.
