Coil wire 115 johnson

This boat has one new coil with the high tension lead sold separately. The other 3 coils are the internally wired high tension leads. I replaced the lead and now I have no spark at that cylinder. Is it possible to open up the coil to connect the lead better? It just appears to stick into a pin of some sort. What is the proper method to replace the wires?

It's possible that when you stuck the wire in the coil you missed the pin Jamie. Remove the wire and see if the pin is bent. You can starighten it out with a small screwdriver. I made a small sharpe punch I use to start the hole in the end of the wire. Not to deep....just enough to get it centered in the wire core. Use a little electrical grease to lube the wire and just push it in with a twisting motion. You can't open the coil to connect the wire. Let us know how your doing.

Jamie I recently replaced all of my coils and have had similiar problems. See following post. 65Hp Evinrude bogging at WOT Follow what OBJ said and when you are twisting the wire into the coil use a pair of pliers to push it onto the pin. Measure the depth of the hole with the pin and mark that distance on your wire, then make sure it is pushed into the hole that distance. You will need pliers to push it down that far. Good luck.

When I got the new wire, there was a small amount of insulation stripped off the coil end. Should I cut this off and then reinsert it as you stated?

The part of the wire that goes into the coil should not be stripped. Just cut flat. If it is stripped it will not fit tight into the hole and will come loose on you.(I tried this at first--didn't work) As directed before make sure the pin is not bent. Also make sure that the center of the wire is centered over the pin and that you push the wire all the way down to the bottom of the hole. If it is off a little you will lose spark at WOT.(I have had this issue also). Read the thread I posted a link to. It explains all of my mistakes with assembling these coils and Fireman57 explains exactly how to assemble them correctly. Have patience with it and make sure it is assembled correctly. These coils are a pain. If it helps, I replaced three of them and I still have one that is giving me problems(no spark). On wednsday I took it apart and the wire was centered on the pin but the wire was not seated all the way down to the bottom of the hole. I can now get spark at idle. I have not had the chance to take it to the water and see if it does fine at WOT. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks TR and OBJ for the replies. Got a good blue spark cranking now. Hooked it back up and running on muffs, idle is much better and enginge bogs down when disconnecting boot. YEAH!!!<br /><br />Lake test is this weekend - Fathers Day. We will see what she does at WOT<br /><br />Thanks for ya'lls help. Bad News!! I believe my # 2 cylinder is dead. I have good spark from the #2 coil. Verified by swapping coils with #4 including changing the position on the power pack. #4 fired fine with good spark from the suspect coil and #2 did nothing with a known good coil. However when I swapped back, I got a jolt off of #2 so I know I have spark.<br /><br />I dont think this is a fuel issue as the V4's dont have individual carbs. I'm thinking of decarbing but doubt that solves this problem.<br /><br />The other cylinders are warm and #2 is cool as can be. HELP<br /><br />Jamie

well look inside the spark plug hole and see if the piston's moving then do a compression check just in case it ain't got a hole in it. that's worst case scenario I would think
