Hi,

I have recently purchased a 1998 sea ray 175 fitted with a mercruiser 3.0 engine. I do not have an owners manual, can anyone advise the procedure for starting the engine when cold. At present it takes a long while before eventually starting.

Thanks

Welcome to iboats.
In the "adults only" sticky there is a thread on how to do it.
Basically you pump the throttle 2 or 3 times give it a little throttle and fire it up. If everything is running as it should, it should just about immediately turn on.

Welcome.

The newer 3.0's have some sort of easy start system.
I don't know anything about that system or if it applies to you or not.

This is how to start the old style carb engines when cold.

With the control lever in neutral - pump the throttle to full 2 or 3 times.
This will pump gas into the carb and set the choke.

On mine I then give it about 1/4 throttle while still in neutral (you'll have to experiment with the best setting) and crank it over.

Be prepared to reduce the throttle in case it's too high.
When cold I usually let it idle at around 1000 rpm for a couple of minutes.

When warm I sometimes give it a bit of throttle in neutral BUT NO PUMPING.

This should get you going anyway.

Jaybee log onto SeaRays web site you can see the operators manual there @ least I did for my 96 ray 175 five series. If not PM me possibly tomorrow I can type out the proceedure from my manual for you. But what everyone has said in this thread is dead on the proceedure.

Its gone or I could not find it either.
I dont know why it was removed. There was a little bit of debate in that thread. Maybe thats the reason for its removal?
