What is the coldest weather you've been in.

I spent a week skiing in the UP of Michigan, January 1982.
The highs were below zero for a week, but the lows were ungodly. We packed up 2 days early because everything was closed. -49 that last night.

It was -44 with windchills of -93 when we left at 10 am.
They closed the roads behind us. We had a State Patrol escort all the way back to Minocqua WI.

It froze the springs on the carb, had to stop and reach up under the van to close the carb.
Found out that all the pipes burst in the house we had stayed in.

Wow, that be cold roscoe!
Yup wind chill factors can change a lot

One time somewhere between 79-81 we had to send a couple platoons of commo people on a 60 day joint service exercise (tactical communications army) to Alaska. Everything went well, then within 20 minutes we lost every system. Turned out that within 20 minutes of each other every 4-40 KW generater froze up and stopped while running!
They had to put them all in tents for the rest of the exercise with diesel heaters to keep them warm enough to run. It was a logistic nightmare for awhile as the extra tents, stoves, and fuel hadn't been accounted for.
We were set up to operate in a minus 30 in open air but the navy requested them to change locations where it went to -60-90 for hours at a time..

Lets see.. I think the coldest temp I have ever experienced was just before I got divorced..Inside temps must have been at least -100 and outside was hitting mid 70s..

I have been in some downright cold weather, but have always been dressed for it. The coldest I have ever been was when I was in Korea, we weren't dressed for that, and it was brutal. I remember waking up and having a thick layer of frost on top of my sleeping bag. The lowest ranking person in the tent was the one who had to get up first thing in the morning to light the stove (they wouldn't let us run them at night, they would rather us freeze to death than to die in a fire   ), it sucked soooo bad.

Blizzard of '77. Wind blowing 60+ mph at -10 to -20* F. Worked 4 straight days & nights as a journeyman lineman for the electric co. At times, I didn't think I'd survive.

I spent 6 winters in North Dakota and 30 - 60F below zero with windchill was common place. Somewhere between -10 & -25F ambient(no wind).

But has been down in the 90s below zero with winchill.

I do not miss that!!!

-35 degrees in Ancorage, Alaska.

Comming home from the Phillipines, and only wearing my summer fatigues, no winter gear, and the plane couldn't make it to the gate due to ice, they disembarked us out on the taxiway and we had to walk (we actually ran) to the terminal!

I think I may have gotten frostbite on that run.

There's always "rumors" around here of people who remember when it got down to -whatever but most do not take into account that there are records kept on such things.

Have seen many a day in the -35 range and once got real close to -40f with a dasterdly wind. I was shocked what a difference 5 degrees can make in this range. It crossed my mind that it's almost like the Rictor scale at this point. More of a multiplication table than a subtraction table.

I think after minus -10 it all feels the same. You just don't know it. Coldest around here I can recall was -12 with a windchill something like -25. One night thing. And working in a fossil fuel power plant we were hard pressed to keep the coal coming even with all the latest in anti-icing stuff on the belts Long cold night.

I can remember -15 before around here, but don't remember much colder than that.

I can tell ya from experience though that -15 is cold enough to freeze the snot in your mustache.

Ahhh...Korea, that was a fun tour. I was lucky in that my tour started in the summer, ended the next summer, so I only experienced one winter there. It was cold, we would be out doing PT in the morning in that wretched cold, but I would say Ft. Carson, Colorado was the coldest I have been. I can't recall exact temps, all I know is we would be out training in the dead of winter in below zero temps, and that sleeping bag barely did much for keeping you warm. Lord have mercy on your soul if you had to get up in the middle of one of those clear windy nights to take a leak. We were not allowed to sleep in the Bradleys, even though the heaters worked good. We got caught in a blizzard one time and were not allowed to move for several days. We ate every last bit of food we had and almost ran out of fuel letting the vehicles run and the storm finally broke. As we made our way back to post, there were M1 tanks stuck in ditches, humvees buried up to the windshields, it was a mess. Snow is the worst enemy for our military vehicles...

Germany was another cold one, that was my first tour and that is where I sustained my cold weather injuries to hands and feet. Now, anything below 55 degrees bothers my extremities.

I live in the black river valley of upstate NY and It was -36 a few nights ago,Thats as cold as I've seen it here in quite a few years. tonight they are calling for -25 with 25-30 mph winds. The web cam on my sig. is about 45 minutes NE of me up in the Adirondacks and the temps will run 10 +/- degrees warmer when you get out of the valley.

Being from the west coast I'm a cold weather lightweigt. I did experience quite a big swing in temperatures during my tour at Ft Bliss TX. (El Paso). It went from 116 F in the shade (with no shade to be found) in the summer to -5 F within six months. The -5 cold snap came so quick that the Army had not yet "authorized" us to roll down the sleeves on our fatigues. Needles to say, there were a lot of us out of uniform for a couple of days.
A couple of times during my tour in W. Germany I woke up out of my sleeping bag to find myself buried in snow. Temperature was close to 0 F. Thank God for those Army mummy bags. I never wanted to crawl out of them.

I will never forget it. It was the last straw for us living in the boondocks in Upstate N.Y. In February it got to -48 and never rose above -35. We moved to Texas the following May. :)

-68 on Jan 18, 1986 outside of Fairbanks Alaska. Did I forget to mention the was in totaly calm conditions? We were stationed up there for three years and it was common for the talking heads on TV to drop the "below zero" after the end of Oct. That dang place was the pits for an 'ol southern boy til I got used to the dark and cold. :( It got light (and I mean just light enough to see by with just the tiniest bit of the sun poking above the trees) for a couple of hours a day in the dead of winter and it stayed -20 or colder for weeks at a time with frequent trips into the -35 to -45 degree range for a week or so just to remind ya of what real cold was. I remember thinking it was downright balmy when the temps got above zero.

Burlington, VT not to be mixed up with my hometown of Burlington, MA.

When I was in VT three years ago and it was -9 with windchills that would make you not want to breath.

Getting pretty cold here now, 10 right not and staying that way untill tomorow afternoon. They say Friday is gonna break records.

I don't mind the cold that much, but I start to hate it when its so cold that it makes you short of breath, thats when it sucks.

How in Heavens name did the early pioneers and natives handle that kind of cold? Must have been back when men were real men. We got down to about 18 deg last week and I was beggin for Acapulco.
