So, for the past month i have been looking at fishfinders, non in particular all different brands and ive knoticed the big price difference in color an greyscale/black an white. So my question is.. Is it really worth the price difference to buy the color one or is it really just a personal preference.. Or am i just simply completly wrong an they completely different?

I would rather save the extra money an spend it on other fishing supplies than on the color option..

Colour is much easier to see, especially if the finder is at the front of the boat and you are at the back.

I've gone from an Eagle Fishmark 240 to a Lowrance 522c. Same screen size (better resolution) and much easier to see.

Yeah, I agree. I plan on keeping my ancient Furuno color (CRT-style) sounder until it dies because it's soooooo easy to read- especially with my less-than-perfect vision. It's literally as big as a breadbox!
When it's finally time to replace it I'll have to buy another color unit. Going to a greyscale would not be a consideration for me.

OTOH, my Jonboat has an old greyscale sounder that's OK, but not nearly as accurate or easy to read.

Would you buy a B&W TV, if they made them, over a color HD unit to save money?

Seriously, I wouldn't own a B&W sounder after learning how to read a color unit. The color just gives you too much valuable information to go backwards

I was the last of the greyscale dudes among my friends, I was the one that said B&W is good enough for me......I was wrong, color rocks.

Color shows so much more. With my lowrance sea finder I can distinguish between types of fish and other various returns by the different density represented by different colors. If it were gray scale I would be guessing for the most part. There is no doubt when I roll over a school of salmon or find a school of herring feeding in the middle of a krill cloud.

I went from a mono Lowrance X75 (that I should have kept. arks is a smart man) to a Lowrance x510c that had issues.
I went back to a Vexilar Edge 2 mono.

I like mono just as well as color plus with color you need to have it back lit all the time to see it.

Mono shows up good without having the back light on.

color is prettier.

My experience with the color unit I had turned me off of the color bug.

Color does look better.

Go Humminbird and avoid the software issues Lowrance has been having
