Since there's a lot of information in this thread, I figure I'll contribute what I've got in case someone finds this via searching later.

motor weights for motors mentioned in this thread:
Merc 110 9.8 hp (Late 70's. Late 60's is a different motor): 65 lb
Johnson/Evinrude Sportwin 9.5: 59 lb
Johnson/Evinrude 9.9 70's/80's: 72 or 77 lb (rope vs electric)
57-58 Mercury Mark 10: 80 lb (I just weighed it)

Question guys, I am looking at a 1971 9.5 johnson it has only been used in Fresh water. I read all your posts seems many have said exhaust leak through gear shift? Is there a rubber or bronze seal that goes bad? Also its hard to repair besides shortage on parts what is so hard to work on? I like the idea of lighter weight over the 9.9. I duck hunt on LONG Island Ny
only use the motor about 10 times a year in the winter months. I know if not abused there all pretty bullet proof. I have a
1970 6 HP I bought new, I have changed points once/water pumps and thermostats/ and head gaskit once. My buddies
are all using 10 hp now. I have a early 80s mariner also great motor but hard to work with in shallow creeks.
So whats the opinions on going with the used 9.5 is it really not one of there better engines?
Thanks
