What is your motor doing / not doing ?----The trouble shooting on an outboard starts with a compression test.----Just post your numbers.-----A powerhead from up to a 1998 model 115 HP would fit , so there is no reason for the numbers to be the same.
I did the compression test - all four cylinders are between 98-99 psi.
And I have done so much more. I have been working on it for months.
I won't go into the details before I personally started working on it!
I have a 70 gal stock/test tank I use for testing it out. after all of the last check list items, It starts in fast idle, then it keeps running when I lock it down in low idle. In the test tank in the driveway. I took it to the boat ramp to see if it would run in the water, it started up as it did in the tank, dropped it into low idle, it ran for a few minutes, then slowed to a stop. Again, it has been doing this numerous times I fixed or replaced something. Just will not keep running in the lake or bay.
To get to this last time out, I had rebuilt the carbs, (more than once) last time tore them completely down, soaked them for 24 hours, cleaned them thoroughly and put them back together, including new low idle orifices. From the fuel line coming from where it comes out of the hull, replaced the line itself, added a fuel/water separator/filter, new line from there to the motor and inside to the fuel pump, replaced the fuel pump, new lines from the pump tp the carbs and put it all back together.
I just tore the tank out and apart, thinking it might be a clogged pick up tub, it is clear and free, I pulled the tank vent to check for a clog, it too is clear. I pulled the line from the pickup to the nipple through the hull to make sure there was nothing clogging it, and checked to make sure there was nothing in clogging the nipple. From the nipple it goes into the Fuel Water separator.
My next guess is to pull the intake manifold and check the gasket, and the reed valves.
Thoughts on why this will not keep running in the water?
thanks in advance for any help!
